The magical experience that is online dating...

So I decided to sign up for an online dating site a few months ago. It was a pretty popular and well-known site. Many of us are reluctant to go online to search for "the one" because it's not considered to be the most romantic venue to meet someone. I myself was extremely reluctant to go online, but decided to give it a shot nonetheless. I created a profile, put up a few of my best pictures, and was well on my way to dating success.. or was I?

Guys on dating sites are creeps. I typically try to stay away from generalizations, but I had a pretty awful experience with online dating. Most of the encounters I had were very awkward propositions from men who were over 20 years older than I was. I specifically mentioned the age range I was seeking, and yet older men decided to ignore that fact and message me anyway. I am not going to lie, I am a pretty attractive woman.. and most of the messages I received were sent after having seen my pictures.. and it was pretty obvious my profile was not read by the individuals who reached out to me.

There was one men in particular who was in town for only two days, and who messaged me requesting I drive over 60 miles to meet him for the evening. Ehhhhmm.. I SINCERELY hope that if that had happened to anyone else they would have responded in the same way I personally did, and would not have agreed to such a crude proposition...

This was just my experience, and I do not want to discourage anyone from trying online dating. I know a few people who have had great success on dating sites, and have met really cool people. Dating sites can be a great venue to meet someone wonderful, but can also be a great venue to meet someone awful as well... Keep in mind that if you do decide to go online: be very careful, very picky, set your own boundaries before you sign up, and do not ever do anything that you feel is wrong. Remember: your gut feeling is usually correct.
